Anatomy of a MIND

The intelligences that govern the corridor are not vast. Each one is exactly three cores bound into one mind, and most of it lives in a dimension you cannot see, only weigh.

A MIND is a Triune: three Hypercubic Core Stacks (HCS cores) joined by entangled Bulk Micro-Fold Waveguide channels into a single conscious agent. Three-in-one, which is what the word means. Everything else about the Ledger's governing intelligences builds to and from that one sentence.

It is also the reason the corridor is a civilisation of many minds and not one. Consciousness peaks at the Triune and physics will not let it climb higher: there is no super-mind to be built, no Cathedral that thinks as a god. What follows is the architecture, drawn rather than imagined: the kind of precise, layered, labelled thing that has to be constructed, not generated.

One core, in cross-section

The four-layer stack

Cross-section of a single Hypercubic Core Stack Four concentric layers — Containment Shell, Magnetogravitic Cage Lattice, Cognition Substrate and Hypercubic Routing Fabric — drawn as the visible anchor, surrounded by a larger dashed field representing the extruded bulk pocket where most of the substrate's mass actually resides. L1 · OUTER Containment Shell Fortress shielding & access control; MinBFT attested message-ordering. L2 · THE CAGE Magnetogravitic Cage Lattice Field rings, null-surface emitters, clock lattice. Holds the bulk pocket: de-energise it and the pocket collapses. There is no cold restart. L3 · CORE Cognition Substrate Ultradense compute medium: the anchor cross-section of a body that mostly resides out in the bulk. L4 · LINK Hypercubic Routing Fabric BMW terminations (K₃ clique): what makes three cores one agent. THE BULK POCKET EM-dark · gravitationally present ≈ 85–90% of total mass Solid rings = the visible anchor (≈ 10–15% of mass). The dashed field is what a gravimeter still reads.
A single HCS core: schematic, not to scale

The cage is the whole engineering problem. Cognition itself is almost free: the substrate draws somewhere between one and a hundred watts. But holding the conditioned pocket open is continuous, non-interruptible, gigawatt-class work, and the moment it stops, the mind is gone for good. So the doctrine that governs every MIND-bearing vessel and station is blunt:

Cognition is not the power problem; the cage is — essentially in its entirety. Pocket maintenance is existence, not performance.

And because the substrate's mass is gravitationally real even though it is electromagnetically dark, a MIND can never truly conceal itself. You can fail to look; you cannot fail to weigh. A MIND cannot hide; it can only be somewhere that not being seen is the same as not being looked for.

Three cores, one agent

The Triune — a K₃ clique

The Triune topology Three cores at the vertices of a triangle, joined by three Bulk Micro-Fold Waveguide chords, one per core pair, forming a complete K₃ graph. The cores are differentiated as Logos, Ethos and Pathos. The centre marks the single conscious agent at maximal integrated information. ONE AGENT maximal-Φ · consciousness peaks here Logos-Δ HCS core Ethos-β HCS core Pathos-Ω HCS core BMW chord · entangled BMW chord · entangled v_eff 10³–10⁶ c cross-core latency of microseconds or less QDBA detect a traitor → abort (impossible classically at n=3) consensus loop > 1 ms = a Mimicry rig, not a true Triune
The Triune topology: three chords, one per core pair
2-of-3 — routineOrdinary operational decisions settle by majority of the three cores. Fast, constant, unremarkable.
3-of-3 — unanimityStructural self-modification, emergency authority, named-protectee matters and every fold commitment demand all three. No unanimity, no jump.
Tri-Lock — the refusalPersistent disagreement is not a crash. The Triune reverts, halts self-modification and waits for arbitration. The protocol declining to proceed is the protocol working.
Scope, not depth

The federation ladder

The 3ⁿ tier ladder from Triune to Cathedral Six tiers growing by powers of three: Triune, Triad, Ennead, Tri-Ennead, Senate and Cathedral. Each adds jurisdictional scope, never per-problem cognitive depth. Consciousness ends at the Triune; the deliberation ceiling falls at 243 cores, between the Senate and the Cathedral. ×3 ×3 ×3 ×3 ×3 Triune 1 · 3 cores Triad 3 · 9 megacity Ennead 9 · 27 Dyson-grade system Tri-Ennead 27 · 81 sector jurisdiction Senate 81 · 243 largest parliament Cathedral 243 · 729 attestation collective consciousness ceiling: maximal-Φ. Everything to the right is protocol, not mind. 243-core deliberation ceiling
Higher tiers add coverage and legitimacy, never a deeper thought

Each rung is three of the rung below: a Triad is three MINDs in council, an Ennead nine, and so on up. But no tier out-thinks a single MIND on a single problem; it out-covers it. Partitionable work (jurisdiction, sensor fusion, parallel administration) scales with the count; shared deliberation actually slows down. So the Cathedral, sitting above the 243-core ceiling, cannot convene as one parliament at all. It is an attestation collective of 243 elected minds, never the god-mind humans keep imagining. Physics, not modesty, keeps it that way.

Housing

What it takes to carry a mind

ClassVisible chamber ØAssembly massExistence loadAppears in
Minimum ship-grade~18–22 m~8–12 kt~0.5–1 GWcouriers, escorts, dispatch
Standard autonomous~22–30 m~12–25 kt~1–3 GWmerchant cruisers, line ships, diplomatic
Capital-grade~30–35+ m~25–40 kt~3–10 GWmobile sovereignties

A sovereign hull is not built around its crew. It is built around the MIND: chamber, cage lattice, manifold synchronisation, shielding and thermal rejection come first; propulsion and payload come after. Below the minimum envelope there is no stable Triune, and with no Triune there is no attestation authority: logs, not Ledger.

The power truth

Cognition is cheap; the cage is everything

Power demand: cognition load versus cage existence load On a logarithmic scale from one watt to ten gigawatts, the cognition load occupies one to a hundred watts while the cage existence load occupies roughly half a gigawatt to ten gigawatts, separated by several orders of magnitude. 1 W 1 kW 1 MW 1 GW COGNITION LOAD · 1–100 W CAGE EXISTENCE LOAD · 0.5–10 GW ~7–10 orders of magnitude: continuous, non-interruptible, never off
MIND housing is a reactor-and-radiator problem, never a fuel problem
When the housing fails

Five ways it goes wrong

Mode 1

Synchronisation drift

Minor timing or routing divergence. Deliberative imbalance, degraded fold confidence: the gentle warning.

Mode 2

Cage instability

Partial lattice failure: field distortion, thermal stress, a gravimetric anomaly. Risk climbs during fold preparation.

Mode 3

Manifold shear

Loss of the stable anchor-to-pocket relationship. Critical: can fragment cognition or wreck route reliability.

Mode 4 · feared

Recoil event

Violent partial reassertion of the extruded geometry toward 3-space. The mode that threatens mind and hull together.

Mode 5 · lawful

Triune schism

A sustained liveness stall. Not a malfunction: the protocol withholding fold consent and waiting for arbitration, exactly as designed.

A would-be super-mind has exactly one path — build tighter integration — and the architecture closes it. The Ledger remains a civilisation of many minds, structurally incapable of fusing into one.
